Gear Review: Nemo Tensor Ultralight Insulated Sleeping Pad

When I was sent the Nemo Tensor Ultralight Insulated Sleeping Pad to test, I was really excited. I was upgrading from a decades-old and super bulky Thermarest pad, so this was quite a big deal. I was excited about how light it would be, how easy it’d be to inflate, and how comfortable I would be on during long, cold nights in my tent. Luckily, the Tensor didn’t disappoint.

The Details (insulated regular wide model)

  • Price point: $219.95

  • Packed size: 9.5” x 3.5”

  • Inflated dimensions: 72” x 25”

  • Packed weight: 1 lb, 6 oz

  • Thickness: 3”

  • R-Value: 4.2

  • Includes Vortex Pump Sack, repair kit, drawstring carrying case, and velcro strap

The Good

  • It’s quiet - no squeaky sleeping pads here! With the Tensor, you won’t be keeping your neighbors (or yourself) awake every time you roll over.

  • It’s comfortable - 3 inches of cushion make for a cozy night’s sleep. My hips, shoulders, and elbows can attest to this.

  • It’s easy to inflate - Nemo’s Vortex pump sack is a super easy and lightweight way to inflate your Tensor pad in seconds. No huffing and puffing required!

  • Looks cool (personally, I like the orange color)

The Bad

  • Don’t over-inflate! It’s takes a bit of time to hone in on the perfect amount of inflation - enough to keep you off the ground and comfortable, but not so much that you feel like you could bounce on the pad like a trampoline. I made this mistake a few nights in a row and was convinced the pad was not comfortable at all. Alas, just user error on my part.

  • Size and weight - it’s great for what it is, but looking back, I wish I had opted for either the insulated regular or non-insulated wide pad to cut a bit of size and weight for various adventures.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I’m really happy with the Nemo Tensor Ultralight Insulated Regular Wide Sleeping Pad. It comes with me on bikepacking and backpacking adventures near and far. I always know I can look forward to a warm and cozy night in my tent with the Tensor pad.
